Chrome extension privacy policy

The AdLibrarySpy extension shows AdLibrarySpy’s public market data (traffic, Meta ads, top products, apps) for the online store you are looking at, and on Meta’s Ad Library it saves ads to your AdLibrarySpy swipe file. Store lookups are free and need no account; saving ads needs you to be signed in to adlibraryspy.com. This page explains exactly what it reads and sends.
When it runs
When you click the AdLibrarySpy icon, it opens a panel on that page (or in Chrome’s side panel, if you choose that in Settings). On other pages it does three small things, all inside your browser and each one switchable off in Settings: on websites it checks whether the page is a Shopify store and, if so, shows a small AdLibrarySpy button in the corner; on Meta’s Ad Library it adds Save and Download buttons under each ad; on Instagram and TikTok it adds Save and Download buttons on posts and videos. Those checks send nothing to us. Nothing is sent until you click the icon, the corner button, or a Save or Download button.
What it reads on the page
When you click the icon, it checks the current tab once for signs that the site runs on Shopify (the storefront’s window.Shopify object, Shopify meta tags, or files served from Shopify’s CDN) and reads the page’s hostname, for example www.brand.com, and the store’s myshopify.com name if the page publishes one. It does not read page content, form fields, passwords, cookies, or anything you type.
On Instagram and TikTok it reads each post’s link, author, caption and media address on screen, and sends them to us only for a post you press Save on. Because those sites play videos from temporary in-browser streams, it also reads the post data the site itself loads (only the image and video addresses of posts), so Download can save the real file. That data stays in your browser.
On Meta’s Ad Library (facebook.com/ads/library) it instead reads the page’s visible text, only to find each ad’s public “Library ID” number. The text stays in your browser; only the ID numbers of ads you save leave it.
The Tools tab works only when you press a tool, and entirely inside your browser: the font detector reads the fonts the page uses, the color picker reads the one pixel you pick, “Allow copy & right-click” turns off the page’s copy protection until you reload, and “Download page media” saves the page’s images and videos to your Downloads folder. None of this is sent to us.
What it sends
- The store’s hostname (and, if our index doesn’t know that host, its
myshopify.comname) tohttps://adlibraryspy.com/api/public/store, to look up that store. - On the Meta Ad Library: the Library ID numbers of the ads on screen, to
https://adlibraryspy.com/api/extension/swipe, and the ad you pick when you press Save. These requests carry your adlibraryspy.com sign-in, because the ads are saved to your own account. - When you press the star to save a store, or open the Saved tab: that store’s hostname to
https://adlibraryspy.com/api/extension/shops, with your adlibraryspy.com sign-in. - When you press Save on an Instagram post or TikTok video: its link, author, caption and image or video address, to
https://adlibraryspy.com/api/extension/posts, with your sign-in. On those sites it also asks which of the posts on screen you already saved, by their links. - Nothing else. No full URLs or page paths, no browsing history, no personal information.
Like any web request, the lookup reaches our servers through Cloudflare with your IP address. We use the IP address only to rate-limit lookups (a per-IP counter in our database) and to protect the service from abuse. Store lookups are anonymous: the extension sends no cookies or account identifiers with them, and the answer is the same public data for everyone. Saving an ad is the one exception, as described above.
What it stores
Your settings, the board you last saved to, where you dragged the panel, and the sites where you hid the corner button. They stay in your browser. The extension keeps no history. Your browser may cache a store’s answer for a few minutes, as it does for any web page.
What we never do
- Sell or transfer data to third parties.
- Use or transfer data for purposes unrelated to showing you store data.
- Use or transfer data to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
- Inject ads, change what a page says, or track you across sites.
Permissions, and why
- activeTab: lets the extension see the tab you clicked it on, and only that tab, only at that moment.
- scripting: runs the one-time Shopify check, or the Library ID read on the Ad Library, in that tab.
- storage: remembers the board you last saved to and the panel position.
- downloads: saves ad media or page media to your Downloads folder when you press Download.
- sidePanel: lets you keep AdLibrarySpy open beside the page.
- Websites (all sites): to show the corner button on Shopify stores, to run the Tools tab and the side panel on the page you are looking at, and to add the buttons on Meta’s Ad Library, Instagram and TikTok. The extension reads pages only for those purposes, inside your browser.
- adlibraryspy.com: the only site the extension talks to, to fetch store data and save ads.
Links you open
“Open full analysis” and “Track this brand” open adlibraryspy.com in a new tab with ref=ext:chrome in the address, so we can count visits that came from the extension. What happens on adlibraryspy.com, including creating an account, is covered by the website’s own terms.
Changes
If the extension ever needs to read or send anything more, we will update this page and the Chrome Web Store listing before that version ships, and change the date above.
